Stunning Structures

'Human Nature' is a temporary art installation by Timothy Hatton Architects within the Aqua Shard restaurant in London that marks Sir David Attenborough's 90th birthday year.

The intricate triple height Christmas installation comprises thousands of 3D printed components made from 100% recycled waste plastic. The nine metre structure has been designed to highlight the importance of protecting our natural environment and features leaves from five different British woodland species.

Suspended from the atrium ceiling and spanning three storeys, lighting the structure presented a challenge for renowned UK lighting designers, Lighting Design International, requiring a solution that offered both narrow beams and flexibility.

Using SORAA's nine degree AR111 LED lamp and a combination of SNAPs, the designers were able to light the installation from below. The narrow beams softly graze through the leaves revealing shadows and contrast, adding vibrancy and drama to this stunning installation.
